WINTER 2007
When Alice had her vision of Bella jumping, she made her way back to Forks immediately to be there for Charlie, thinking Bella dead. Upon her arrival Alice found Bella alive but not exactly safe seeing as how her new best friends where a pack of shape shifting wolves. Edward however was misinformed of Bella's 'death' and went to the Volturi to join her in the afterlife. Thanks to the Volturi refusing to kill him, not wanting to waste his talents, Bella and Alice barely made it to Italy in time to save Edward from exposing himself and getting himself killed. But not in time to avoid trouble with the Volturi of course. Before the group was allowed to leave Italy, Bella's life was thrown into the balance. In order for her and the Cullens to remain safe, she had to be changed into an immortal as well. That was fine by Bella, she was ready and willing to join the Cullen's family. Two people however had other plans in mind.
Edward and Jacob both wanted to keep Bella alive at all costs. To say a truce between the two was formed would have been a stretch, but they did see eye to eye on the subject of Bella's life. The Volturi agreed to send in some of the lower ranking guards as well as Felix and Demetri to keep them all in line. With Afton, Santiago, Renata and Heidi all in tow, the 'spies' arrived in Forks on all hallows eve with a surprise visit to the Cullens to announce their arrival in their territory. Panic filled the family quickly since they thought that the Volturi's arrival in the area meant that their time to change Bella had been wasted. Even when the group informed them that they where only 'visiting', the worry didn't pass. They where still sure that the Volturi had sent them to insure that Bella was changed and quickly. When the news got to the pack, a new war began between shifters and vampires.
The La Push shifters where torn between choosing to protect Bella's 'family' against the red eyed intruders that where trying to make sure that Bella was indeed dead, or simply taking out the entire lot to save Bella from becoming the enemy and in the end ensuring that she and Jacob could finally be together. Even without a sure plan in order, the shifters have been trying to keep Bella on their side of the line, knowing that if the red eyes cross the boundary they where free to kill without questions. Of course they didn't factor in that they had all of the Volturi royalty to deal with after the fact as the Cullens did, but it seemed easy enough work for them. Despite the shifters inability to decide what to do, the Cullens reluctantly obliged the request of Bella's staying in La Push when she was away from the family and school in order to be sure of her safety. During all the ruckus Edward is debating keeping her safe by going ahead and changing her, after of course asking to marry her first, yet he cannot bring himself to damn her. Now the main question on everyone's mind is who will win the war and who will be left living with the ghosts of the past.
