THE BASICS
FULL NAME: Athenodora Zosime Volturi (nee Pompeia)
NICKNAMES: Thena, Athie, Dora, Zo (only by her mother)
BIRTHDAY: The First Day (Kalends) of the month of Aprilis (Second month of the Roman Calendar) in the year of the Consulship of Augustus and Silanus, the ancient equivalent of roughly the 1st of February, 25 BC.
HOMETOWN: Misenum, Italy
ALLIANCE: Volturi
SPECIES: Vampire
BLOOD PREFERENCE: Crimson
APPEARANCE
HAIR COLOR: Blonde, often likened to spun gold
EYE COLOR: Originally blue, but now crimson. Black when thirsty
HEIGHT: 5’4
WEIGHT: 130lbs
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Small birthmark low on her right shoulder blade, much like a miniature splash of brown paint against her alabaster skin. Scarring around the right side of her collarbone.
CLOTHING STYLE: Fashion is Thena's world, so you'll rarely find her in non-designer clothes. Even when she's wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt she looks well dressed and stylish, often complimenting her look with accessories.
OVERALL: Athenodora sports mid-length, wavy blonde hair that sits well with her pale, alabaster skin. A slight flush rises to her cheeks when she's fed well, but otherwise she remains a uniform white, veins visible in certain places beneath her near transluscent skin. Turned at a relatively young age, her skin remains primarily wrinkle free and smooth to the touch, as opposed to the papery feel that comes with advanced age.
She strikes a surprisingly formidable figure for her somewhat diminished height of 5'4, often wearing stilettos - but only the designer kind. What goes for her shoes also goes for her clothing, and she cuts a slim line in clothing with phenomenal pricetags, caring more for the look and fashion than for what she has to pay. With well over two thousand years of life behind her, she has a large enough bank account amassed that she need not worry about what she spends.
Thena does not sport a muscular body by any means, her arms and legs are of normal proportions for her body type, and some would even consider her abnormally thin. However, for the time that she lived as a human, her body was an average one, and her height completely normal. For modern times she is considered beautiful, but she sees herself in the light of Roman times, where she was merely middle class and average overall.

BEST KEPT SECRET: She dislikes mostly everything the Volturi stand for – completely abhors the idea of gaining total power at any cost – and only stayed loyal to the cause because of Caius.
AN IMPORTANT MEMORY: Sitting astride her white horse on the crest of a far off hill, watching the dark clouds of volcanic ash thrown up from Vesuvius enveloping and destroying almost everything she had ever known and loved. Knowing that her son and his wife, as well as her husband who thought her dead, were now dying – suffocating – and that although she was immortal – an immortal with powerful connections - even she could do nothing but sit there and watch with tears streaming down her face.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Married
OVERALL: A reserved, quiet personality dominates the facade of Athenodora Zosime Volturi. The slender woman has had years to perfect the art of remaining ‘invisible’ - even in a sparsely populated room - and is thus able to listen in to much information she would not have otherwise heard. Thena particularly enjoys the collection of information – no matter whether or not it is pertinent to her existence – and revels in holding knowledge that simply eludes others. This being said she abhors imparting this information to the ignorant, and enjoys holding it just out of the reach of those seeking it, making her by no means a gossip. Should you be looking for someone to hold a secret for years, decades, centuries or even millennia, then Athenodora would assuredly be a safe bet.
Rarely seen in anything but designer clothes, and always impeccably dressed, the alabaster skinned vampire has a passion for fashion that has seen her wardrobe change markedly over the years, and with her addiction to the written word to boot it is almost as large as her private library. She likes to remain up to date with the times in all things – technology included - and is reluctant to admit that her speech is somewhat dated, preferring instead to refer to her sometimes antiquated ways of saying things as ‘precise speech’. In this wish to remain in the present she has set herself apart from certain members of the Volturi who wish the world would have remained in the medieval times, and as such when in Volterra she tends to live a secluded life unless others specifically seek her out.
When agitated she often returns to her old ways - including those in her human years - and resorts to baking and cooking in order to keep her hands busy. It is, she often reflects, a ridiculous thing to do given that she has not eaten real food for thousands of years, but going through the motions of something that was once so familiar to her is soothing, and she enjoys the smell of baked goods as any good housewife does.
Having once carried and given birth to a child, Thena simply adores children. The fact that she is no longer able to have children has only served to strengthen this adoration. In addition to this, a small part of her still remains the young, energetic girl she once was before she was turned, and she truly becomes ‘alive’ when around youngling; laughing and playing in a totally reverse personality to the one she normally shows the world. This personality also surfaces with time spent around Caius, and serves to remind her that although she would like to ignore the fact that her love for him is a part of her that cannot be purged, she is not only unwilling to purge it, but unable to do so for fear that without that love she will be nothing. Nobody.
In truth, her love for Caius drives her to live. It doesn't necessarily drive her to be with him, but it does drive her to be herself, for that was who he fell in love with and she must be worth something to be worthy of Caius' love. She holds a great amount of respect for her husband, and if she were to name her greatest friend, despite their differences, Caius would be her answer. She owes him much, but it is not simply this fact that gives him her allegiance, it is pure and intensely complicated love.
HISTORY
MOTHER: Gaia Sulpicius Pompeia (nee Zosime)
FATHER: Appius Livius Pompeia
SIBLINGS: Quinta Zosime Pompeia (sister)
Tiberius Appius Pompeia (brother)
OTHERS OF IMPORTANCE: Caius Volturi (husband)
OVERALL HISTORY: Born before the construction and subsequent destruction of Pompeii, in a neighbouring town called Misenum, Athenodora was the youngest of three children, born to a baker named Appius and his wife, Gaia. Unusually successful in his line of work, Appius catered to the wealthy families in Misenum, a naval port that was home to merchants, naval officers and government officials with plenty of gold to spare. Appius’ older brother would eventually found the town of Pompeii somewhere around 8BC, and the entire Pompeia family then moved from Misenum to help him in his endeavour, including Athenodora and her husband of three years, Gaius Iulius Scaevola, a renowned imperial horse guard who adored his wife.
A year later and Athenodora gave birth to a boy, Acanthus Gaius Scaevola, who would be the light of her life – the center of her universe - until one day she simply disappeared. To her family it was devastating; to Thena it was life changing. One minute it was late evening and she was making her way home from her father’s bakery, the next she was thrown into the world of pain and the supernatural with a werewolf worrying at her collarbone like she was nothing but a rag doll. The pain was excruciating, unbearable, and then.. then there was nothing. The golden haired woman awoke to a new world, and a pale face leaning over her, a pale face she didn’t recognise, but one she instinctively felt she could trust and, strangely, love.
Caius.
Unable to watch the people she loved grow old and pass on to the next life, Thena accepted Caius' proposal to travel with him, only returning to the area infrequently as she refused to simply forget her family. It was on her last trip to Pompeii that she witnessed the explosion of Vesuvius and the death of her family and loved ones, which rendered her a different person - quiet and reserved - her previous personality only being able to be drawn out of hiding by Caius or being with children.
Her second husband treasured her like no other ever had, and in turn she devoted her life to him, not questioning when he joined Aro and Marcus, not even when she was sequestered away in Volterra for decades - centuries - such was her love. But then along came the Cullens, and the Troubles began. Her husband became distant to her, until one day he departed Volterra without telling her and she was left in a place where she'd never really fitted in, amongst strangers who she felt looked at her with accusing eyes - blaming her for her husband's defection. It was too much, and so she fled for the New World of America without looking back.
Now Thena finds herself in yet another world where she doesn't quite fit in, but at least this time it is a world of her choosing. In America she is free to do as she pleases - free of her husband's demands, which had been grating on her without her realisation. For this she is angry at herself more than Caius - that somebody could enslave her to the point where her own personality and emotions are eclipsed by theirs digs at her soul, niggles at her mind and worries with her feelings - but her love for him keeps her from severing that tie. Thena is attempting to find a balance in her life, as well as an understanding of her husband's actions.
